Kids say the darndest things, don’t they? We all laugh until their innocent but candid critiques hit us squarely in the chest.
“She seems to have an illness.”
“Maybe she took some pills with drugs or something like that.”
“He looks like a hero.”
“He’s studying to go to university.”
When fashion magazine spreads were shown to a group of 8 year-olds, how they described the men and the women were strikingly different. Why ARE all the women portrayed more frequently in degrading positions, and the men… not so much? If even kids can immediately tell what’s wrong in the way media portrays women… isn’t it time adults do something about it?
We super appreciate this brilliant approach. The fresh perspective of children makes adults (at least these adults) see this problem with fresh eyes.
